Hapnophobia is a site specific, participatory work created for Arts Centre Melbourne. To experience the work, find a seat on a lounge in Mezz bar foyer, and stream the video on your phone, using a pair of headphones.
Following the movements on the screen, the listener’s tactile senses are coupled with a eerily synchronised sound track which follows their movements as they touch, squeeze and stroke various surfaces of the space.
This public space of the Arts Centre interested me because it is a place where people often come to sit alone. The piece aims to create a very private and intimate experience within a very public space.
