Domestic Bliss: Concert #3

Laura Altman, MP Hopkins, Jasmin Wing-Yin Leung & Adam Gottlieb

Thursday 3rd October 7pm for 7.30pm start.

LAURA ALTMAN is based on Gadigal and Wangal Country, Sydney, where she weaves her way through the improvised, exploratory and folk music scenes with her intuitive clarinet playing, free improvising, and compositions. Laura writes songs with voice and guitar that have recently begun to find their way into the world. These “gentle, thoughtfully crafted songs” have been described as “like listening to a little music box of feelings.”

MP HOPKINS is a composer and performer based on unceded Gadigal land, Sydney. Drawing from histories of sound poetry, musique concrète, and radiophonic art, his work is characterised by the use of feedback, obscured vocalisations, stringed instruments, and magnetic tape textures, to create sparse and spectral sound collages.

JASMIN WING-YIN LEUNG is a composer and musician who is interested in resonance, intonation and playing the Erhu (a two stringed spike fiddle). She uses mathematical and instinctive extractions to unveil sonic ‘shadows’ of physical spaces, and examines the potential of resonance to speculate ideas of secondhand memory. She believes that the act of tuning can create transformative reciprocal experiences.

ADAM GOTTLIEB (verb) first typed his name into google when he was around 11 only to discover that he had already authored many books including The Pleasures of Cocaine, Legal Highs: A Concise Encyclopaedia and Peyote And Other Psychoactive Fungi. His school reports consistently stated he showed potential yet lacked focus and was prone to daydreaming.
