The long awaited second iteration of our house concert series is here!

JAMES RUSHFORD is an Australian composer-performer, whose work draws from concrète, improvised, avant-garde and collagist musical languages, staking out an idiosyncratic stylistic space that has been described as ‘electro-acoustic experimentation with a beating heart’ (Boomkat) and ‘haunted Jacobean ASMR’ (The Wire). Investigating the creases, cracks, and folds in traditions ranging from early music to new age, Rushford’s work subtly exaggerates seemingly liminal aspects such as atmosphere and the bodily presence of the performer until these take on a weight equal to musical elements such as pitch, rhythm and timbre.

IRAN SANADZADEH is a composer, performer and the designer of the Terpsichora pressure-sensitive Floors. She is the Convenor of Composition and Music Technology at Monash University. Her work focuses on new possibilities of expression that an extended relationship with newly designed instruments can offer. Iran performs primarily on her set of floors, developed initially from the study of the pioneering work of Australian dancer Philippa Cullen. She has been continuing the development of the Floors since 2015 in collaboration with composer Sebastian Collen. The Floors were a finalist in the 2023 Guthman Prize for Musical Instruments.

CARLA ZIMBLER bends light across architecture and soaks sculptural forms in vivid textures as a live performative experience. Utilising experimental techniques to explore luminous phenomena, audiences are drawn into immersive spaces where sound-responsive visuals endlessly expand and exhale. Carla seeks to build conduits and connective passages between the physical x spiritual through hypnotic colour and transformative symbolism.
